Mikel Arteta admits Everton have to eradicate mistakes fromtheir play if they are to bounce back from Saturdays 4-0defeat to Bolton. The Blues dominated the game in terms of possession but wereundone by a first half Kevin Davies header and a nightmare fiveminute spell in the second half that saw Stelios net twice and GarySpeed fire in from the penalty spot.It left the Everton players shell-shocked and Arteta insists theplayers will have to analyse why there were so many second-halferrors that presented Bolton with the chances to build up anadvantage that did not reflect the flow of the match.
It may not have seemed a 4-0 game but at theend of the day that is the result. We are really disappointed andsad. We need to turn back and look at why we did badly. But wedidnt score and we made so many mistakes to create the goalsfor them so that is something we need to improve. Three goals in five minutes is unbelievable and when youare playing at home you feel even more disappointed. The Blues suffered an equally hefty defeat at West BromwichAlbion last month and Arteta believes that a lot of work has to bedone to ensure it is not repeated again. He adds: It isnt the first time this season we haveconceded so many goals and that makes you think.
It was an awfulafternoon for us. The loss to Bolton came just three days after the disappointmentof a 2-1 home reverse to West Ham.Having come into the week on the back of a hugely creditabledraw against Manchester United Arteta can barely conceal hisfrustration at having missed the opportunity to use home advantageto maintain the climb up the table. He concluded: We were looking at these two home games andthinking we could get the results to make the table look muchbetter. But we need to analyse what happened on Saturday because weplayed nearly the whole game in their half but we lostagain.
